11/17/21: Department of Defense Education Activity (DoDEA) Student Transition Program

The Hawaii Business Roundtable continues its support for Transition Centers. The centers were designed to support our newly arrived military-dependent students and have proven to make a difference in the lives of our military children and families. The HBR held a webinar featuring The Department of Defense Education Activity (DoDEA) as they shared insight on their new Student Transition Program. Their program components are mirrored in all DoDEA Pacific Region’s middle and high schools; modeled after Hawaii Department of Education School Transition Centers.and the components are critical to minimizing the stressors of a highly mobile population.. The webinar was presented by Ms. Lois Rapp, DoDEA Pacific Director of Student Excellence, Ms. Tuya Rosenberry, Program Analyst at DoDEA Pacific Regional Office, Ms. Debbie Alcazar, Transition Coordinator at Kadena High School Okinawa, Japan and Ms. Jean Grice, ​Liaison Officer​ to the US Pacific Command at ​DoDEA.  02/24/21: ‘Aina Maunakea: An overview of UH’s stewardship activities

Greg Chun, Executive Director, Maunakea Stewardship Chancellor's Office at the University of Hawaii at Hilo provided business and community leaders with a strategic overview of the University of Hawaii’s stewardship activities on Maunakea for the period Jan 2019 - Dec 2020. Topics covered include governance, master planning, decommissioning, management plans, and other key stewardship activities initiated and/or completed to date all of which are foundational to securing a new land authorization enabling the future for astronomy in Hawai’i. An update on the TMT project was also provided.
